Arlo is a cat who arrived at Cats Protection’s Bridgend adoption center (South Wales) for a chance at a better life. He was born with several birth defects. But despite all this complicated start to his life, he never let anything stop him and only asked to be loved.
“Arlo is an absolute sweetheart, and he has charmed all the staff at the centre,” said Sue Dobbs, Bridgend adoption center manager. And she adds: “He may look a little different from other cats, but he has a lot of love to give, and he is full of fun and mischief. He is such an adorable cat and he deserves a happy, loving home. » The kitten suffers from hydrocephalus (accumulation of fluid in the brain) which gives it a rather misshapen head.
After a thorough veterinary examination, the kitten was found to be in good health. To ensure the best possible quality of life, the staff hoped to find him the ideal family that would meet all his needs. Around the same time, Davy, a social worker for children with disabilities, had considered sharing his home with a feline friend. Davy organized a visit to the Cats Protection shelter where the kitten, who had just turned one year old, was housed. Arlo was a little shy and nervous around people, but when he and Davy met, they hit it off right away and something happened between them.
“I live alone in a small rural cottage and thought it would be ideal for an elderly cat. But my friends started tagging me in Cats Protection posts, about this little cat with special needs. They thought I should at least visit him. So I decided to go see him. He came closer and gave me a lick, I took that as a sign that we were made for each other,” Davy tells our colleagues at Love Meow.
Arlo is now a thriving cat despite his health problems
Arlo went to his new home and quickly found his favorite place on Davy’s lap. The shy kitten started to open up a little more and let go. He greatly appreciates the cuddles and caresses that he constantly asks for. “He is still nervous sometimes and doesn’t like loud noises. But he is so affectionate. His personality is incredible, he’s such a character,” Davy said. During his first visit to the vet after his adoption, Arlo was very brave and took advantage of the moment to hug every staff member he met.
Over the next few months, the kitten really flourished. Today, he leads a normal cat’s life and it is not uncommon to see him chasing his owner up the stairs or racing with him to bed. When he finds Davy’s slippers, he drags them into his basket and snuggles in them. He loves spending time lounging on the windowsill, watching the fish flit around in the aquarium, then he goes straight to his human dad for a well-deserved nap and cuddle. And every morning, Davy wakes up to his companion purring adorably.
